Moral Failure in Ministry

Last week I heard Kevin DeYoung pose these 10 questions to Pastors as they consider how to safe-guard their lives and marriages from moral failure in ministry.

“Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.” - 1 Timothy 4:16

  1. Am I faithful in private devotion?

  2. Am I more eater to get away from home or be at home?

  3. Have I slid into a posture of entitlement and defensiveness?

  4. Is there any relationships with the opposite sex that is overly friendly/comfortable?

  5. Am I lacking in vigilance in fighting lust and temptations?

  6. Am I lacking in meaningful, open and transparent friendships?

  7. Am I considering how much sin will cost me?

  8. Am I considering the harm I will do to others?

  9. Am I aware that there are greater, sweeter, more lasting pleasures available to me?

  10. Am I thinking of the honor and glory Christ is due?
